Keep Porty Tidy was created by Bob Jefferson, Oscar’s Community Relations Manager, over 20 years ago. As a Portobello resident, Bob wanted to promote the protection and preservation of Portobello’s seaside charm, which is treasured by residents and visitors alike.

Working in partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful, Edinburgh City Council and other local groups, Keep Porty Tidy organised beach litter picks and supported the #MyBeachYourBeach campaign throughout the summer of 2018 and 2019. The campaign also saw the installation of litter-picking stations along the Promenade. Larry the Lobster, the group’s mascot, even emerged from the depths of the Forth to support the group’s efforts!

This summer, Keep Porty Tidy has appealed to the Portobello community for litter picking volunteers. The group has had an amazing response and is working to create a community of over 50 local volunteers. The volunteers will help keep Portobello Prom and the beach litter-free by carrying out regular, small-scale litter picks on the beach and Prom. The group hopes to raise awareness and encourage others to bin their litter. Keep Porty Tidy will continue to support this year’s #MyBeachYourBeach campaign and will carry out litter surveys for Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Keep Porty Tidy is partnered with the Oscar’s Group who support the groups activities, campaigning and the creation of the new community litter picking group.
